I am Brent Fitzgerald

I’m a designer/coder in San Francisco. I currently work full time as lead designer at Swivel, where we’re putting together a new product for social data analysis of live data streams. Mostly I figure out how to make complex information and interactions feel simple, I whittle down the product to the minimum set of useful features, and I work with a great team of engineers who take the storyboards and wireframes I provide and turn them into a slick, working product.

Additionally I’m co-founder of Tacolab with Jeevan Kalanithi. Tacolab is a one stop design shop for innovative connected devices and interfaces that blur the boundaries between virtual and tangible. We excel at rapid prototyping of new forms of interactive, social systems. Project clients so far have included Hallmark and Panasonic.

Prior to Tacolab and Swivel, I was a graduate student researcher at the MIT Media Lab in the Physical Language Workshop led by John Maeda. My master’s thesis was a project called Promiserver, an experiment with lightweight, socially enforced contracts written in code and interpreted and executed on a web server.
